Ethiopia Lala Salama Decaf
This coffee from Bette Buna comes from the mountainous Taferi Kela region in Ethiopia's Sidama. Behind every cup lies far more than careful cherry processing. Bette Buna is not just a washing station – it is a project dedicated to improving lives in the Taferi Kela community. The organization provides long-term support by employing people with disabilities and single mothers, educating smallholder farmers, and rewarding the quality of their work with fair prices. Every lot is fully traceable, from the individual farmer all the way to the final export.
The coffee cherries are hand-picked only at peak ripeness and then processed using the traditional washed method. After 24–36 hours of fermentation, the coffee is dried for 8–15 days on raised African drying beds before resting for several weeks to achieve exceptional stability and cup clarity. The caffeine is then gently removed using the CO₂ (carbon dioxide) decaffeination process, which preserves the coffee's natural sweetness, aroma, and distinctive character.
This coffee is a perfect example of the very best that a classic washed Ethiopian coffee can offer – a clean, elegant, and meticulously crafted cup with a story that creates a genuine positive impact for local farming communities.
Cup profile: Sweet and tea-like, reminiscent of black tea, with a caramel finish and delicate citrus-floral aromatics.
