Colombia Suukala Café Agrario
Behind this coffee are 35 smallholder farmers in Colombia’s Tolima region, united in the Café Agrario association. After years of dependence on middlemen and facing the consequences of civil conflict, the association has focused on producing specialty coffee that brings farmers greater value and independence.
In cooperation with Siruma, members regularly receive training in coffee cultivation, processing, and evaluation. They are gradually building their own infrastructure, allowing them to gain greater control over the entire journey of their coffee, from the farm to export. Since 2020, the association has been certified organic, produces its own organic fertilizers, and actively protects the local environment.
The coffee is harvested exclusively from fully ripe cherries, which undergo 24 hours of fermentation before being washed and dried on African raised beds. The name Suukala means “sweet in taste” – and that is exactly the philosophy behind this coffee, which reflects the patience, care, and determination of the local farmers.
